Film buffs now have one more outlet for kicking back and enjoying a movie: Facebook. Warner Bros. launched a rental program that allows users to view its movies streamed from within Facebook fan pages. Currently, The Dark Knight is the only film available for rental through the social network, but Warner Bros. says more titles will be added in coming months.
“Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. digital distribution, in a statement.
Each rental costs 30 Facebook credits, or $3, and viewers have access to the rental for up to 48 hours after purchase. Users can also use other Facebook features while watching the film, such as posting comments or status updates.
